We started this project in 2020, we were trying to get the feel of a running stream, our only regret was not making it a little longer.
It’s 3.5 metres long x 1.5 metres wide with a depth in the shallows of 100mm to 1000mm in the deep section.
And below is the pond now, April 2022, we have 5 goldfish, donated by our neighbours, in the deep section and at least 14 Newts which have been breeding, we’ve removed a lot of the overgrown pond plants before the Newts start to lay this years eggs.
The net is not to stop the pups from getting in there, although Yuki has taken a liking to the water & has found a way in at least twice now, it’s actually to stop a pair of Magpies hunting our Newts and who have decided this year to nest in a Sycamore at the end of our garden, pictures to follow, we plan on updating this in the coming months to a more permanent feature that safeguards the pond life and the pups.
